Streetlife FM Launch Party
MONDAY 13 AUGUST 2007 1pm–3pm, Outset Centre, Walthamstow.
Streetlife FM was live for a month on the FM dial and we celebrated the launch in style!
Streetlife FM has been running as an online radio station for 3 years and is run by young people, for the whole community here in Waltham Forest. This August, thanks to Team Leyton and others, we were able to broadcast locally on 87.7FM as well as online at www.streetlifefm.com.
We've always been a fresh multi-flava'd station, and the RSL provided a platform for all tastes. Streetlife FM is music based, but during the RSL we also produced discussion shows on relevant topics. “Meet the Councillor” was a flagship show for the station, and was a specific slot for local councillors to come in and chat about local issues.
To celebrate the month of Live FM broadcasting, we officially launched the Station with a party on Monday 13th August
Whilst all other events seem to require an umberella Streetlife’s launch was bathed in glorious sunshine, as the assembled crowd tucked into food, posed for photographers and either entertained or watched a variety of talented young performers do their thing. The growing numbers of Streetlife listeners not able to attend could of course be there – as they listened to a live broadcast either locally on 87.7 fm or anywhere in the world via the Net.
Some of the highlights of the afternoon included those shy retiring gentlemen from Rollin G take to the decks and get the assembled crowd and listeners rocking. With sets from the Allstar DJ’s aka Yung Flame and D Sel. Harry the Human Beat Box added another layer to the musical flava of the day as the assembled crowd wondered where the additional percussion was coming from – and given the date the 13th - everyone felt they were lucky to be there!
In amongst those spotted at the event were recent “Meet the Councillor” guest Graham Sinclair with all of his family in tow and, notably enjoying themselves, a number of the other projects running at the Outset Centre. I think it is fair to say there may be a not so whispering campaign for more events like this!
